Information
The history of beer brewing
Beer has been brewed in Nový Jičín since the foundation of the town. There were 45 brewing houses, 28 of them were on the town square and the rest in the neighbouring streets. In the middle of the square there was a wooden brewery which brewed barley and rye beer.
However, the old wooden brewery was no longer suitable and was demolished. In 1590 the lawyers bought the corner house on the northwest side of the square (now yellow-green) in order to build a new brewery in the following three years. This brewery fell victim to a huge fire in 1768, but was soon rebuilt. By the middle of the 19th century, it was no longer suitable for operational requirements. The last beer was brewed here in 1834, and the house continued to function only as a taproom, and later as a hotel and inn (Axman).
Another brewery was founded by Leopold Kudielka in 1869 in the farm settlement of Bocheta near Nový Jičín. The company was established on the old trade route called Císařská. It belonged to the Kudielka family until 1945. The brewery was modernly equipped, and it bottled beer into barrels and bottles, which were then distributed not only around the town but also to the surrounding area. Part of the company was a malt house for processing barley. From January 1947 the brewery was part of the national company Moravian-Silesian Breweries. In the post-war period, it produced about 25 thousand hectolitres of beer per year. The brewery brewed light ten (Loučské výčepní světlé) and light twelve (Bochetský kozel). At the end of the 1960s, the taproom grew to 72,000 hectolitres per year. At that time, the Bocheta breweries also produced Ostravar, a light lager, under "licence". At the beginning of the 1970s, the local breweries were turned down for good. Louč beer was replaced by the golden beverage from Nošovice.
In the first half of the 1990s, the brewing tradition in the town was restored for a few years. In the National House, they brewed a light and dark unfiltered twelve-degree beer called Baron. The microbrewery ceased operations in 1997.
For several years now, the tourist newspaper "Novojičínsko" has been systematically covering the traditional breweries in Nový Jičín, featuring them in every issue; they are available online and can be downloaded from the website icnj.cz.

Royal Beer Darts Tournament
Do you want to try what it's like to throw at a target in front of other spectators and play against leading foreign and Czech darts players such as Peter Wright, Luke Littler or Karel Sedláček and Adam Gawlas? If so, don't forget to visit the Masaryk Square in Nový Jičín on Saturday 20 June 2026, where a tent dedicated to darts will be set up again from 11 a.m.!
If you have no experience with this sport, which is currently enjoying growing popularity, there is no need to worry. Throughout the day, the game will be played exclusively with the High Score system, where each player will be given 12 darts, 3 of which will be practice darts and 9 competition darts, and the goal is simple - to roll the highest number in the total. So you don't have to worry about closing over a double segment like the pros do.
The highlight of this darts day will be the Royal Beer Competition, which will start at 6pm and will feature the top 4 women and top 4 men from separate leaderboards, which will be run on site throughout the day. It will be the same discipline, but with a beer barrel on the back - the women will carry a load of 17 kilograms and the men 21 kilograms. There will be prizes for all finalists.

The most well-known Czech darts company, Windson, will also have a presence here; it will bring two stands with sisal dartboards and showcase its products on-site.

The darts tent at the Nový Jičín Beer Festival 2026 will again include informative bulletin boards with successes and photos of all clubs operating in Nový Jičín, such as the second league team Na Šikmé ploše and Kolonie Žilina + the third league Medúza Bar from the so-called "soft", and also the Penguins Nový Jičín which are playing classic darts.
Registration for the Royal Beer Competition will take place on the day of the event at the darts stand.
The results will be announced and the winners declared on-site after the competition ends.
SAUSAGE CHALLENGE
Foodies, take note! Once again this year, the Pivobraní festival wouldn’t be complete without a hot dog eating contest!
The hot dogs will be supplied by "Párek v rohlíku U Marušky." This stand, located on Masaryk Square, is a true legend among the stands in Nový Jičín. It has specialized in making hot dogs for over 40 years.
The stand was founded by Mrs. Marie Seibertová, who was the first to start selling hot dogs in Nový Jičín. Today, it is run by Ivana Čípová, who maintains the homey atmosphere and high quality that customers have come to expect.
Contestants will test their strength at 4:30 PM in front of the main stage!
The competition is open to 10 men and 10 women, who will compete at the same time in front of the main stage!
The winners will be one woman and one man who eat the most hot dogs in 4 minutes. Oprócz zadania z kiełbaskami uczestnicy otrzymają również kubek piwa z browaru!
Registration for the hot dog challenge will take place on the day of the event at the cup redemption booth on Masaryk Square.
The results will be announced and the winners declared on-site after the competition ends.
The competition is open to people 18 years of age and older.
